Come lend a hand at one of our ReStores to make a difference in the community and start earning Student Service Learning hours!

The Maryland State Department of Education requires each student to complete 75 hours of student service learning which includes preparation, action, and reflection as a high school graduation requirement. Student Service Learning (SSL) is an instructional strategy that combines meaningful service to the community with curriculum-based learning. It is a form of civic education that provides students with opportunities to explore and reflect on what it means to be an active, engaged citizen.

Students report that service-learning:

  • provides a connection between school and the real world.
  • strengthens leadership, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • improves academic performance while addressing needs in the community.
