Over the past 40 years, Habitat for Humanity of the Chesapeake has built and renovated 800+ homes in 19 communities throughout Central Maryland, providing 2,500+ children and family members with safety, stability, and a chance for a better future.
Is there an age requirement to volunteer?
At our ReStores, volunteers 14-15 years old must be accompanied by a chaperone; volunteers 16 years or older no longer need a chaperone.
At our construction sites, volunteers 16-17 years old must be accompanied by a chaperone. You must be at least 18 years old to use power tools.
* Volunteers under the age of 18 who wish to volunteer on a build site must email volunteer@habitatchesapeake.org before signing up!
*All chaperones must have a profile and sign up for the same shift as their child.

What should I wear?
Sturdy closed footed shoes are required (No Crocs)
Clothes you do not mind getting dirty or potentially ruined. As a safety consideration, avoid loose-fitting or baggy clothes.
Can I come late or leave early?
No. Late arrivals and early departures are NOT permitted.
We ask that construction volunteers arrive on-site promptly at 8:30 am for check-in - so we can stay on track with our construction schedule.
HFHC staff reserve the right to ask volunteers who arrive late to leave and reschedule for another workday.
What does a typical volunteer day look like on the construction site?
Wednesdays through Saturdays from 8:30am - 3pm, and break for lunch around 11:30am.
Tasks and responsibilities vary based on the construction schedule. Please be aware that the expected tasks may change due to the nature of construction scheduling and weather delays. Potential tasks include but are not limited to:
- Finishing work
- Hanging drywall
- Hanging kitchen cabinets
- Installing floors
- Installing trim
- Interior or exterior painting
- Interior paint prep
- Landscaping
- Siding installation
- Site cleanup and maintenance, as necessary
- Site preparation
Other projects may be available based on your individual skills and experience.
What do ReStore volunteers do?
ReStore volunteer opportunities are available every Tuesday through Saturday from 10:30am - 5:30pm.
ReStore tasks and responsibilities vary based on availability. ReStore volunteer tasks include but are not limited to:
- Assembling donated products
- Basic store maintenance (sweeping, cleaning and organizing aisles)
- DIY projects
- Greeting and customer service
- Loading and unloading trucks
- Merchandising (building and creating decorative displays)
- Painting
- Pricing inventory
- Receiving donations
- Sorting materials (hardware, tile, tools, etc.)
- Stocking store shelves
